Hey gamers, Giancarlos Calderon here today with another Halloween review, and the last one for October, bringing you Onimusha: Warlords. The game was originally released in Japan on January 25, 2001 on the PS2. Then the game was released in North America on March 13, 2001. This game is an action-adventure video game where players take the role of lone samurai warrior, Samanosuke Akechi. The gameplay and graphics are what make this game unique in it's own style. To me, this game is like Resident Evil in feudal Japan. Plot. In 1560, a war erupts between Imagawa Yoshimoto and Nobunaga of the Oda clan. Historically, this event in Japan is known as the Battle of Okehazama. Nobunaga's purpose is to unify Japan, and crown himself it's sole king. A lone samurai warrior, Samanosuke Akechi watches from a cliff, and battles a group of soldiers of the Oda clan who attempt to murder him. When the victory of Nobunaga is absolute, he laughs triumphantly, until an arrow pierces his throat. A year later, Samanosuke receives a letter from his cousin, Princess Yuki, telling her concerns about her castle, which maids and servants are missing, and then are found eaten by the monsters. Samanosuke joins with his kunoichi (female ninja) partner Kaede, and together they fight to save Princess Yuki from the monsters. However, Nobunaga mysteriously returns from the dead, with a new purpose: to conquer not only Japan, but the world itself. Originally released in America on August 31st, 2010. Metroid: Other M, was developed by Team Ninja and published by Nintendo. This game is a 3D action-adventure game, which features a new plot, new gameplay, and a more challenging quest since it's predecessors. Metroid: Other M was announced at E3 Entertainment Expo in 2009. The game's story mainly takes place between the end of Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion. This game was met with mixed to positive reviews, except that G4 took a harsher approach at the game. Plot. Shortly after the end of Super Metroid, Samus awakens in a medical lab at HQ wearing her Zero-Suit, dreaming about her final battle with Mother Brain, the death of the hatchling, and the complete destruction of Planet Zebes. She enters a training sequence as directed by a Head Quarantine Officer. After training, she reports the destruction of Zebes, and the complete annihilation of the Space Pirates and Metroids. Some time later, she receives a distress signal code named Baby's Cry, from a derelict Bottle Ship. Shortly after landing, she reunites with an old friend, Anthony Higgs, and her former Commanding Officer, Adam Malkovich, leading a platoon for a search and rescue. Though being an "outsider" she decides to help, and soon, there will be horrifying secrets to encounter. Devil May Cry was released in Japan on August 23, 2001, then released in America on October 21, 2001 on the PlayStation, developed and published by Capcom. Devil May Cry is one of many successful titles by Capcom, and it is a game that will scare you, make you pumped with excitement, and leave you in awe due to it's amazing epic storyline, music, gameplay, and effects. This is the first title of the series. Plot. Thousands of years ago, a war erupted between the human race, and the dark forces of the underworld. A warrior from the underworld, the dark knight Sparda, stood up for justice and battled against the evil legion. He quietly reigned in the human world, and became a legend. In the present, Dante Sparda, descendant of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, owns a business called Devil May Cry, and is attacked by a woman named Trish in his office. She tries to hire him for a job, but she first tests him by killing him. However, Dante cannot die, he revives and surpasses his assailant in battle. After that, she reveals that the Demon Lord Mundus, who Dante holds responsible for the death of his family, is planning to return to the human world. Dante goes with Trish to an immense castle, to put a stop to Mundus' schemes. Friday the 13th was developed by Galoob, and released in 1989. This game is yet another game based on the 1980 cult horror film of the same name. This game is one of those that turned out to not give justice to a cult classic movie series, but to ruin it's reputation with stupid gameplay. Plot. In this game, a group of teenagers must save missing children at Camp Crystal Lake. Randomly at any time, they will encounter the eternal inhabitant of the camp, Jason Voorhees himself. Nightmare on Elm Street was released in 1990 on the NES, developed by Rare Ltd. This game is based on the famous 1984 movie of the same name starring, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon and an emerging Johnny Depp. Though the game was not that good, it is still quite enjoyable among fans of the movie series. This game is for four players, taking the role of unnamed teenagers in the game. For those who don't know of the movie series, then you don't know what you're missing. It usually starts with teenagers hanging out, then when they fall asleep, their dreams turn into horrific nightmares, where Freddy appears and slaughters them both in the real and dream world. Plot. The plot follows a group of teenagers or one single teenager, they roam throughout Elm Street, fighting creatures and monsters in both the real world and in the dream world. They must collect Freddy's bones in order to prevent him from returning. They fight against the many forms of Freddy until they confront the real Freddy Krueger himself. Dead Space was released by EA Games on October 14, 2008, on the PC, PlayStation 3 and also on the XBOX 360. Dead Space is a survival horror third-person shooter game, developed by EA Redwood Shores. In this game, players take the role of Isaac Clarke, who battles a polymorphic, virus-like, alien infestation which turns humans into murderous creatures known as "Necromorphs", onboard a stricken interstellar mining ship called the USG Ishimura. I really enjoyed playing this game, and it was great. For some reason, I believe this game is a like a combination of Halo, Metroid and Resident Evil. Plot. The year is 2508, the USG Ishimura a "Planet Cracker" starship, sends out a distress signal to the Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC) during a mining operation in the planet Aegis VII. The company dispatches a ship, the USG Kellion to investigate what is going on. Upon their arrival, the guidance system malfunction and the Kellion crashes into Ishimura's dock. When the crew attempt to seek other means of transport, a swarm of grotesque monsters known as "Necromorphs" kill everyone but Hammond, Kendra and Isaac Clarke. Clarke becomes separated from the two, and begins a trek to escape the ship and investigate through audio logs and text logs, to learn what went wrong in the ship. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, is a 2D action side-scrolling video game released on 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and it was published by Capcom. This game is the sequel to Ghosts 'N Goblins on the Nintendo Entertainment System and other different consoles. Sir Arthur once again reprises his role as the main character of the game, and features new strategic gameplay such as the double jump, enhanced graphics, and enhanced sound surpassing it's predecessor. This game was remade for the Game Boy Advance in the early 2000's, which featured levels from the first two games. Plot. The kingdom where Arthur lives, is celebrating for some unknown occasion. The brave knight reunites with his beloved Prin Prin, but the demons prepare to capture her once again. During an emotional moment, a demon breaks inside the castle, and captures the princess. Arthur is set out once again on his quest to save her, and defeat Astaroth (Romaji: Asutaroto) once again, and his other two allies: Nebiroth and Sardius. Ghosts 'N Goblins, is a 2D side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Capcom in 1985. For my Halloween 2010 reviews, I write this one, also to remember all the good times playing this game. This game is actually very, very difficult, in which gamers skills are put to the test. The difficulty will make you scream, cry, break your controllers, and leave you partially insane. This game was not only released in Arcade, but also released in consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Commodore 64, Atari, Amiga, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and so on. Plot. In a medieval world, Princess Prin Prin is captured by Satan, King of the Demon World. The demons begin a campaign for world conquest, to plunge it into absolute darkness. A knight named Sir Arthur, takes up his armor, and prepares for battle to save the princess. Chakan: The Forever Man was released on June 8, 1992 on the Sega Genesis. This game is mainly based on the late 80's comic book of the same name, created by Robert A. Kraus. Ed Annunziata was the producer of the game, in which Kraus was impressed with the work. I'm actually quite impressed that GameTrailers and other game websites have NOT reviewed this game. You can also watch a review made by Kwing on YouTube. This game has given me nothing but headaches since I played it. Chakan: The Forever Man will put your gaming skills to the test, in which it will piss you off, make you cry, break your controller and yell at the screen. Plot. In the past, Chakan was the greatest warrior in all the land. Neither man, nor beast, could best him in mortal combat. One day in his arrogance he said: "One day, even death himself shall bow before my swords". Death appeared, and smiled saying: "A wager. If you win, eternal life is yours, but if I win, your soul is mine, to do with as I wish." Foolishly, he accepted the deal. They fought with sword and sorcery, and the earth trembled at their clash. Chakan struck him so hard, that Death found himself at his mercy. Chakan was rewarded, but with a fatal twist, he is cursed to live eternally with Death's visage. In order to seek solitude and rest in peace, he must destroy all four supernatural evils of the world. |
