Plot. Thousands of years ago, a war erupted between the human race, and the dark forces of the underworld. A warrior from the underworld, the dark knight Sparda, stood up for justice and battled against the evil legion. He quietly reigned in the human world, and became a legend. In the present, Dante Sparda, descendant of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, owns a business called Devil May Cry, and is attacked by a woman named Trish in his office. She tries to hire him for a job, but she first tests him by killing him. However, Dante cannot die, he revives and surpasses his assailant in battle. After that, she reveals that the Demon Lord Mundus, who Dante holds responsible for the death of his family, is planning to return to the human world. Dante goes with Trish to an immense castle, to put a stop to Mundus' schemes.
Concept. You start with Dante in a massive castle. The mission objective is to explore the castle, unlock some secrets, defeat the bosses and defeat Mundus. You can upgrade your weapons, techniques and classes. There are four difficulties in the game: Easy, for those who are new to the game, Normal, for those who already know their way, and Hard, for those who completed the game, and are expecting a greater challenge, and the Expert difficulty known as "Dante Must Die" for die-hard DMC players who enjoy far bigger challenges. Completing the game in Hard Mode unlocks the Legendary Dark Knight Costume, which looks awesome. After beating the game in Dante Must Die mode, the Super Dante costume is unlocked, and the Devil Trigger is unlimited.
Music and Sound. Capcom did an amazing job with the sound effects of the game, and I really enjoyed it. The rock 'n roll music got people pumped with epicness, and awesomeness as well. Devil May Cry, continues to wow old and new gamers as well.
Memories. I remember that I played this game at my cousins house in 2002, before I got my PS2. This game has really blown me away, and my favorite fight has to be the one against Nelo Angelo. That boss fight is very epic, and it got me very pumped. Also, besides playing DMC, me and my cousin would play WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It, before it was scratched, in which he blames me up until this day without any evidence. Well hey cuz, the truth is you played it for hours, it's obvious you did not take good care of it. Oh, some good and bad memories on that summer vacation.
Graphics and Design. The graphics were very well made, and it looked almost just like the graphics of Capcom's other title, Onimusha: Warlords. The game had a very Gothic style in design and graphics, and it defined the game's Gothic image.
Legacy. Devil May Cry spawned a sequel in 2003, and met with the same success as it's predecessor. The second game introduced new characters, new enemies and a different voice acting distanced from the first game. The third game DMC 3: Dante's Awakening was released in 2005. The third game was a prequel of the first game, featuring a much younger Dante, and also introducing one of the series most important characters, she is just called "Lady". The series spawned an twelve episode anime, which took place between the second game, and the fourth game, which is an interquel. Devil May Cry 4 was released in 2008 on the PlayStation 3 and also on the XBOX 360, which introduced a new main character, Nero.
Rantings. My most hated enemies has to be Sargasso, those enemies got me very pissed at times in the game. Another annoyance has to be the Shadows as well, they are annoying as well. Also one of the bosses I hated the most has to be the Griffon, I really could not stand him, especially in Hard Mode. The Sins were also a pain as they came out of nowhere with eerie laughter.
Good Aspects. The gameplay was complicated, but still it defined the game's unique style. Also, my favorite boss was Nelo Angelo, who turns out to be Dante's twin brother, Vergil. The games punk rock music during fights also made it a kick ass game. Super Dante and the Legendary Dark Knight costumes made the game even more excellent, that it exceeded my expectations.
Overall. Devil May Cry is a great game, and enjoyable. The game's final score I give, it's a 8 out of 10
