Greetings Gamers! Welcome to a special look back at the first movie based on a video game ever. That movie is none other than, Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros, is a 1993 movie that was based on the video game of the same name, and at the time of it's release, the Super Mario franchise was one of the most celebrated video games of it's time long before Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter ever existed. However, when people heard about this movie, many were excited, but when they went to see it on the movie theaters, it was a whole different story as reviews were overwhelmingly negative. The 1993 movie portrayed a version of Mario, Luigi and Bowser that were worlds away from the vision of Nintendo. In this movie, the Mushroom Kingdom had been turned into a neon-lit cyberpunk city where dinosaurs had evolved into humans and strongly hated the humans of our world. Bowser was a leather suited politician who enjoyed mud baths and dinosaur pizza. The goombas were turned from mushrooms into eight-foot tall lizard warriors with shrunken heads and armed with flamethrowers. Super Mario Bros. stands as one of Hollywood's worst adaptations, and it started the whole "movies based on video games" genre. Before the flop of movies based on video games that were Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark and many more ever appeared, this is the movie that started it all. But there was an early script that could have been a success compared to the stupidity that is this movie.

What's happening gamers? Today's video game news talks about Xbox One. As you can all see, the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference was today and as expected, many did not like this press conference and think that the console looks awful. To me, the console looks like a mixture between a VCR and a DVD as you can see in the picture to the left, you see the new Xbox Controller, the console and the Kinect as well. Like expected, the Xbox press conference was going to fail again, in the same fashion of it's failure at E3 last year. Microsoft despite a new console just doesn't cut it anymore. There are many either praising the console despite all the hate. The director of Xbox Live programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb acknowledged some "confusion" over used games on the next-gen platform has arisen today. He has staded the following "We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we've confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail." Will Microsoft make a better press conference at E3 2013? Well, that is about to be seen.
God Bless and Play Hard Gamers! Today The Game Station informed us about Nintendo, EA and Ubisoft. Let us start with Nintendo shall we? It is known that Nintendo is making a very bad move by claiming ad revenues on Let's Players, that's bad news for big Let's Players like Chuggaaconroy and NintendoCapriSun on YouTube. And EA is suspending all online passes on all titles, making one of it's steps to rebuild it's fallen reputation after being crowned the worst company ever. Also, Ubisoft suspended all development on 1666 after firing the creator of Assassin's Creed. Now this doesn't look good for many fans of Assassin's Creed as without him, the game franchise will not be the same way as we all know it. What will happen in the gaming world after such ruinous decisions have been made? All I can say is; No one really knows what tomorrow may bring.
God Bless and Play Hard Gamers! Now we all know Capcom has big hits such as Ghosts N Goblins, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, Okami, and Dragons Dogma. But many games franchises of Capcom had ended before their time apart from the Mega Man franchise, these games had major potential, but unfortunately did not see the light of another day. Here we have the forgotten games of Capcom. Final Fight When people thought of beat em up games, they thought about Double Dragon, TMNT, Battletoads, and Bad Dudes. Before Guy, Sodom, Rolento and others made it to Street Fighter Alpha. These guys were in their own video game known as Final Fight. Rather than a fighting game, Final Fight was a beat em up video game released for the arcades in 1989. The three main characters of the original game were Cody, Haggar and Guy. Cody was a mixed martial arts master skilled with knives on a mission to rescue Jessica. Haggar is the mayor of Metro City and a former professional wrestler, and father of Jessica. Guy was a friend of Cody, skilled in the ancient art of ninjutsu. The original Final Fight was followed by two sequels for the SNES: Final Fight 2 (1993) and Final Fight (1995). The original game had a parody titled Mighty Final Fight, released for the NES and featured childlike versions of the original Final Fight characters. Final Fight Revenge was a spinoff that was a competitive 3D fighting game for Sega's Titan arcade hardware in 1999, which was followed by a home version of Sega Saturn in Japan only. A 3D sequel titled Final Fight: Streetwise was released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Since Final Fight Streetwise, the series never saw the light of another day, but it's characters yet remained in the Street Fighter and Vs. Capcom titles. With the success of games such as X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Capcom has had many crossovers with characters from Marvel, SNK, and Tatsunoko. Now, the Vs. Capcom series has been very successful for many years, making gamers jump from the edge of their seats as they played as their favorite heroes and villains from Capcom, Marvel Comics, SNK, and the Japanese Anime branch Tatsunoko. Marvel Vs. Capcom Trilogy The Marvel vs. Capcom series began in 1999 with it's first installment titled Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, it is the fifth installment of a Marvel Comics licensed game made by Capcom. This game was developed in 1997 and finished in 1998 with a release in 1999 in the Arcades in Japan and North America, on that same year on the emerging Dreamcast, and in 2000 on the PlayStation, years later it was released in 2012 as part of the Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins for PSN and XBOX. Unlike X-Men vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, this game features Capcom characters going at it with Marvel superheroes and the supervillains. Capcom characters such as Mega Man, Lillith, Morrigan, Roll, Shadow Lady, Jin Saotome and Strider appear in this game, and from Marvel you have Juggernaut, Psylocke, Hulk, War Machine, Jubilee and Venom. Unlike previous games, the point character of a Marvel vs. Capcom team cannot summon the offscreen partner for an assist attack; instead, an assist character is randomly selected before the match begins. This character can be summoned a limited number of times in battle to attack the opponent in parallel. Codes can be used to force the system to select a certain assist character. The Duo Team Attack allows a player to control both characters on his or her team simultaneously for a brief period of time; the characters have unlimited use of their super moves during this time. Since some characters have hard-to-avoid super moves that do substantial damage if blocked, the Duo Team Attack can lead to tactics that are oriented around activating it before an opponent could. Since the PlayStation version only allows one character to play a point, a Duo Team Attack will call the assist character repeatedly without cost during its duration. There are several partners from Marvel such as: Cyclops, Magneto, Iron Man, Rogue, Storm, Sentinel and more. And from Capcom you have: Arthur, Anita, Shadow, Ton Pooh, and so on. Resident Evil 4 is the sixth main entry in the series and the third title to make it to the Nintendo Gamecube, it is also the fourth Resident Evil title of the series to make it to the PlayStation 2. Resident Evil 4 met with great success upon it's released and the main character of the story is Leon S. Kennedy, now a government agent under orders to rescue the President's daughter Ashley Graham, who has been captured by a sinister cult. Traveling to a remote rural area of Europe, Leon fights hordes of violent villagers and mutated monsters, and reunites with the mysterious spy Ada Wong. The game pioneered and popularized the "over the shoulder" third-person view perspective in video games. Six years have passed since the destruction of Raccoon City and the crushing downfall of the Umbrella Corporation due to it's involvement in the viral outbreak. Now, Leon S. Kennedy had received special training and became a government agent for the President of the United States. Leon has been recruited for an assignment, which is to rescue Ashley Graham, the President's daughter from a sinister cult led by Osmund Saddler. What Leon discovers is that the villagers and monsters are caused by a parasitic disease known as Las Plagas (The Plagues). The gameplay has changed since Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. Now players get to play in a third-person mode type of shooter and genre went from survival horror to action survival horror. Although, some elements like mixing herbs, key items, reading documents and puzzles have returned. And a new feature is introduced such as finding treasures and combining jewels to create a better treasure to sell to the Merchant for a higher price. The Merchant sells weapons, first aid sprays, upgrade weapons, and even special weapons when beating the game for the first time at a much more higher price. Resident Evil 4 shows the inclusion of context-sensitive controls. Based on the situation, the player can interact with aspects of their environment: kicking down a ladder, jumping out of a window, or dodging an enemy attack. There are also quick time events, in which the player must press buttons indicated on-screen to execute actions such as dodging a falling boulder or wrestling an enemy to stay alive. These are often incorporated into the game's many boss battles, where the player must avoid instant kill attacks. Resident Evil 4 has three mini-games seen in the PS2 version. The Mercenaries, which Leon, Ada, Wesker, Krauser and even Hunk himself are playable characters. In The Mercenaries, if every character has 6 stars, a new weapon known as the Handcannon is unlocked, a weapon that is similar to Mega Man's. Assignment Ada is a mini-game that has a non-canon story where Ada must obtain various Plaga samples while fighting or avoiding infected commandos and at the end fighting Jack Krauser. Separate Ways is a mini-game which tells Ada's story during the main game where she randomly encounters Leon, and works for Albert Wesker to obtain the Plaga Sample from Saddler. The main enemies of the game are infected violent villagers known as Los Ganados (The Cattle). Los Ganados can dodge, wield melee and projectile weapons, and are capable of working collectively and communicating with each other. They were once simple farmers until becoming the product of an infestation of Las Plagas ("The Plague" in Spanish). They are all part of Osmund Saddler's cult known as Los Illuminados (The Enlightened Ones). Resident Evil 4 was also released on the Wii and PC alongside it's three mini-games that were included in the PlayStation 2 version. There are also new costumes for Leon and Ashley and cutscene browser. In 2011, the game was downloadable on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox Live. |
