Our story begins shortly after The Rise of Cobra, in which the Joes had maintained peace after winning the nanomite wars. But then the base of the G.I. Joe is attacked and they are framed for stealing nuclear warheads from Pakistan by Zartan (Arnold Vosloo) who is impersonating the President of the United States (Jonathan Pryce). The entire team is eliminated with Duke (Channing Tatum) being one of the casualties. Roadblock (The Rock), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), and Flint (D.J Cotrona) are the only survivors. Now, they must discover the source of their attack, and become suspicious of the President, and must find old and new allies to avenge Duke and take down Cobra Commander and his army.
Now, some of the fight scenes like the ones with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were very well made, stunts and choreography had good performance, but some action scenes were not so good at all. Why? Because in my opinion some of them were exaggerated, others were "bleh". Now, seeing some returning characters was ok, but one thing got me asking this: "Where were Ripcord, Scarlett, Heavy Duty, Breaker and General Hawk?" because I think that these characters were missing in the movie. Some funny scenes were funny alright, but others were kind of cheesy. Bruce Willis appearing in the movie was cool as General Colton, as for the other actors, I actually found Adrianne Palicki pretty sexy and badass in her role as Lady Jaye. Ray Stevenson was cool and funny as Firefly, and Elodie Yung did ok as Jynx.
Special effects were ok in many scenes including the action sequences with Firefly, the attack on the base and especially the duel between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. It was pretty cool to see Cobra Commander in his old school helmet, rather than his Hitler-like appearance with a mask in the first one.
Not too bad, but decent. Many scenes were cool, others were cheesy. My final grade for G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a C+.
