Plot. There is no plot for this game, since it's sports of course.
Controls. On the N64 the A button was used for acceleration while you maneuvered your character with the joystick. While using your joystick, you can perform various tricks: Up and down, you'd perform a hand stand, counter-clockwise, you'd make your character spin, and clockwise, he/she would ride the front of the jet ski while looking behind. While jumping ramps, you can perform many stunts such as: backflips, double backflips and so on.
Game Modes. There are five game modes:
Championship: Players must beat a series of tracks to win the championship. Normal is easy for those who are new to the game, Hard is for those who want a challenge, Expert is for die-hard players, and Reverse is the next Expert mode that has to be unlocked by beating Expert.
Warm Up: players ride in Dolphin Park while following a dolphin, they also have the chance to ride on the dolphin.
Time Trials: For players looking to break time records.
Stunt Mode: For those who want to score the highest points while performing all kinds of stunts and passing through hoops without missing. When players miss a hoop, and pass one again, the hoop points decrease back to the beginning, but not the player's score.
2P Vs: For people who want to play for hours against their friends or family members.
Development. The game was originally going to be with futuristic speedboats, but since they were making F-Zero X for the N64, it took a turn to another concept, which is actual jet-ski racing. The creator of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 added a jet-ski mode, because he is a great fan of Wave Race 64.
Rantings. In Expert Mode, you will be constantly annoyed by Dave Mariner, he's fast despite being fat. But when you play as Mariner, he is very slow. Also, I hated the Marine Fortress stage, I found that annoying with the floating wooden boards and also the gate that does not open until the second lap in Hard and Expert mode. Also Port Blue's tunnel was challenging, it took me days to beat it.
Good Aspect. My favorite stage of the game has to be Glacier Coast. It was fun and I loved how they designed it, the music was awesome as well. Also in Southern Island, I really loved how the water reduced after the second lap, but the bad thing is you could not go to the second ramp that is before the finish line.
Overall. For my end of the summer review, I give this game a 9/10
