This game was developed and published by Telltale Games, and unlike any other game, this is an episodic video game similar to the episodic Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but this is The Walking Dead. This game can also alter the plot of the game due to the choices that you make.
Plot. A local sheriff takes Lee from Atlanta to a local prison for murder. When his car hits a walker, it goes off the road killing the cop and allowing Lee to escape. Lee discovers to his horror that many people have turned into walking corpses and runs to a nearby suburban house, where he discovers that a little girl named Clementine is there, her parents having gone to Savannah prior to the chaos. Lee promises to care for Clementine until they can find their parents, and along the way he meets a group of survivors and plan to escape the apocalypse as all of them prevent themselves and each other from being bitten.
At other times in more action-based sequences, the player must follow on-screen prompts for quick time events to keep themselves or other characters alive; failure to do so will require the player to restart the game just before the quick time event. Other timed points are major decisions, such as choosing which of two characters to keep alive. Each episode contains five points where the player makes a significant decision between two options; through Telltale's servers, the game tracks how many players selected which option and lets the player compare their choices to the rest of the player base. The game can be completed regardless what choices are made, though the impact on the story will change based on these.
Concept. This game is an episodic video game where you can make various choices. The choices you make can affect the storyline of the game. You can purchase episodes of the game, or for a much quicker way you can purchase the season pass to automatically obtain the episodes that were released. Unlike typical survival horror games, you can interact with people, items, and objects. There are times were you use melee weapons or firearms against the zombies that come to attack you.
Design and Development. Instead of characters looking very realistic in 3D, this game's design is very unique as if you're watching a motion comic book. However, there are characters from the comic book that are in the game such as Glenn, Hershel Greene, and Lilly Caul. Players meet these three characters before the plot of the comic book. This game is more based on the comic book than on the television series. There is a character named Doug, based on Doug Tabacco, a former employee of Telltale Games. He is one of the characters whose fate depends on the actions of the player. His inclusion in the game was used in early advertisements to promote Telltale's pre-order contest where Telltale would pick people who pre-ordered the game from their website to become human and/or zombie characters in the game.
Music and Sound. Jared Emerson-Johnson was the composer of the game, and he did an incredible job with making the game's music. Some moments with the music were heartbreaking, others were creepy, and some were very epic. As for the sound effects, the zombie moans and snarls were excellent. The Walking Dead is truly a masterpiece of a game.
Rantings. Now there are some things I do not like about this game. When you try to make decisions at times, you have to be quick because time could run out. And there are some characters in the group or out the group that you will hate with a vengeance. Some of the music themes were not that good at times.
Good Aspects. This game's replay value is moderately high, I really loved the plot outline of the game and all the episodes as well. My most favorite episode of the game was the final one, it delivered one of the most intriguing and shocking moments in gaming history. The Walking Dead is a great game, and I am looking forward to Season 2 which according to Telltale Games is being planned for July 2013. You can purchase this game on the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.
Overall. The Walking Dead gets a 9 out of 10.
God Bless and Play Hard Gamers!
