However, there is another new character named Beat, in which marks his debut into the series. There are also new Robot Masters as usual, and new stages and upgrades as well. This is one of the final games in the Mega Man series to be on the NES, since Mega Man 7 went to the Super Nintendo.
Plot. Two months have passed since the defeat of Dr. Wily at the hands of Mega Man in the events of Mega Man 4. Proto Man, brother and ally to the blue bomber goes on the rampage with eight robot masters, and in the process he captures his creator Dr. Light. Mega Man once again sets out to save his creator and stop his brother from destroying everything.
Concept. As usual, Mega Man has to hunt down and defeat eight Robot Masters to obtain their abilities and stop Proto Man. And, players can get a number of upgrades of Rush, including his new bird robot Beat. Other power ups including extra lives can be obtained.
Design. Certain stages have a unique design. My favorite stages in the game are those of Gravity Man and Wave Man's stage. Gravity Man's stage has a good design, and in this one the gravitation is reversed from floor, to the ceiling. Also in Wave Man's stage, players can pilot a water craft from the half way point to the boss room. Charge Man's stage is also very cool, because it takes place on a train
Rantings. My rants about this game is the lack of originality of the gameplay, and the continuous repetitive storyline. However, it still has it's spark to be a great game.
Good Aspects. The game has moderately high replay value as it still had respect among fans of the game. Mega Man 5 happens to be a good MM game, but not better than Mega Man 4 or 3.
Overall. Mega Man gets a 8 out of 10'
