Upon it's release, Killzone 2 recieved worldwide critical acclaim by many critics, reviewers and fans of the first game and it's follow up, Liberation. I also loved this game as a friend a mine from college who loves the series, suggested me to play this game. Thanks to him, I enjoyed this great masterpiece developed by Guerrilla Games, and I have to thank them for creating such an amazing experience in FPS gameplay.
Plot. Two years have passed since the Helghast assault on the planet Vekta, and the ISA has launched a massive assault on their enemy's homeworld of Helghan. The goal of the ISA is to capture the supreme leader of Helghan, Emperor Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Enter Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, a battle hardened veteran of the special forces unit the "Legion" assigned to Alpha team, who goes on a mission to take out the Helghast threat. Soon, Sev discovers that he is not only fighting enemy forces, but the entire planet itself. Welcome to Helghan!
Multiplayer is for players who want to challenge others such as people from around the world or against friends and family if they want. The online multiplayer is based on various types of classes in which players can choose, and also all types of weapons depending on which class they choose. Players in Warzone play as either an ISA soldier or Helghast soldier.
Concept. The purpose of the game is to guide Sevchenko and his ISA allies throughout several missions in the hostile planet of Helghan, in order to capture Emperor Visari. There will be various enemies and you will be severely outnumbered and outgunned. If you want to take a break from campaign, you can also play in multiplayer mode called Warzone. In Warzone you fight against people from around the world, friends, or family members.
Design. Most of the animation was used by using motion capture with some animations, reloads for example, done by hand. Facial animation was done using blendshapes with bones for the jaw and the eyes. Lead tech artist, Paulus Bannink, explains that "The main reason for going with blendshapes was the relative ease with which they can be transferred to different faces, it would also provide a more artist friendly way of editing the facial animation rig.". These graphics are much more updated than the previous games, and it looks realistic. Maya 8.5 was uses for the animations, while MotionBuilder was used for motion capture.
Music and Sound. Joris de Man was the composer of the game's music, he scored 60 minutes of in-game music and 30 minutes of live orchestral score for the game, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, with the Nimrod Studio Orchestra. The music shows how epic this game can be in many scenes and parts of where you are shooting Helghast soldiers.
Rantings. Some things I actually didn't like about this game is that in some missions, the overused shading can make the game look to dark at times, but still it's ok. Another thing I didn't like is that you can actually resuscitate your comrades, but they cannot do the same for you. But all that changed when Killzone 3 came out. My least favorite weapon has to be the flamethrower. Also I wished that some vehicle sequences would last longer, but unfortunately they did not.
Good Aspects. The storyline, music, gameplay and graphics make Killzone 2 very unique in it's aspects. Also, playing in Warzone was an incredible experience to shoot your friends down in multiplayer mode, or you can team up with them and take other people out. Killzone 2 has a high replay value for if you want to beat the game in the hardest difficulty known as Elite. This game was also featured on the Sony PlayStation Network reality game show series, The Tester.
Overall. Killzone 2 happens to be on my list of favorite FPS games. But to me, the best game is Killzone 3. This game gets a 9 out of 10.
God Bless and Play Hard Gamers!
