Well, in some ways, I actually think that Final Fantasy needs a reboot. Why? Because in the past years since 2010, Final Fantasy has been losing respect and it's reputation was gravely damaged when Final Fantasy XIV was released with so many glitches and errors, and also with the rumored cancellation of Final Fantasy Versus XIII last year, and it's absences from E3 and Tokyo Game Show, the franchise's reputation is on the verge of hitting rock bottom, or should I say, it's already there. Now, though Final Fantasy XIII received positive reviews, not many fans were too pleased, and the same goes for Final Fantasy XIII-2 and most likely it will happen to Lightning Returns.
I don't blame Final Fantasy XIII for losing respect. Many people believe that either VII, X, or XII was when the series was starting to decline, but the franchise was starting to decline once Final Fantasy XI came out. Why? Because I like many fans did not like to see Final Fantasy being turned into an MMORPG, and in some ways Square Enix was trying to imitate companies that made MMORPGs like Jagex (RuneScape) and Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft).
There is a good reason why I never bothered playing Final Fantasy XI. I mean, charged a month for playing that game? No thanks! My cousin once talked about it as well about the game franchise needing a reboot. To be exact, I agree with that. Final Fantasy just doesn't have the same respect it once had anymore. Back in the 90s and early to mid 2000s, Final Fantasy was the GREATEST saga of all time. Everyone was serious about all the FF games, especially Final Fantasy VII. When Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX, came out, the series had a golden age. And also playing Final Fantasy Tactics was awesome too, and other spinoffs such as Final Fantasy Legend, Crystal Chronicles, and so on.
But then after Crisis Core and Dissidia, the series just got weaker and weaker, and when XIV came out, "Poof", the series reputation was gravely damaged, and fans continue the pleading for a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Some would say that Final Fantasy VII is totally overrated. Don't get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy VII since it was my first game in the series, but a game I love MORE than FF7 is FF6.
Ok, what if Square-Enix tried rebooting the series? An example would be like making a new storyline different from the games we all know, such as taking place in a fantasized version of Earth or in any of the worlds of the series that would take place in an actual time where global economy is scarce and the world is ruled by a global dictator, or anything else that you guys might think would be cooler. So my final thought is this: Do you think Final Fantasy should have a reboot, so that way it can have the respect it once had? Well, I hope Square-Enix considers this. Thank you all and good night!
God Bless and Play Hard Gamers!
