I remember also playing the game when I was 3 years old, because I was still little, and I remember when I had my first Nintendo. My father and uncle, though they liked it that I played games sometimes, they tried turning me into a bookworm and a sportsman, but I chose a path. I am a bookworm and a gamer, haha. Getting back to the topic at hand, this game has popularized the 2D sidescrolling platform genre, and now, I gladly review this game to you.
There are many coins to collect, when you collect 100 coins, you gain an extra 1-Up. Players find special bricks with a "?" mark. Some of these bricks contain a mushroom that allows Mario to grow, others contain a green mushroom that gives them a 1-Up. And when Mario is in his Super Mario form, players find other bricks that contain a Fire Flower, thus enabling Mario to become Fire Mario, and hurl fireballs at the enemies. You can also gain 1-Ups by defeating multiple enemies with the Koopa Shell.
Players can defeat enemy Goombas by jumping atop of them, in which they get flattened. When Koopa Troopas are stomped, they turn into shells, allowing Mario to kick them and kill multiple enemies, but if your not careful if a turtle bounces against a pipe, then Mario will be hit and shrink to his starting form.
Concept. The purpose of this game is to guide Mario throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, surviving the forces of Bowser, go through many castles of each world and save Princess Toadstool. There are stages overworld, under the ground, underwater, and also into castles. There are a total of 8 stages. After beating the game for the first time, players can replay it from the beginning, but with a much challenging difficulty.
Re-releases. The original Nintendo game is immensely popular up until this day, and it has been re-released numerous times, starting on the Super Nintendo as part of Super Mario All-Stars, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and finally to the Nintendo's Wii Virtual Console.
Legacy. Super Mario Bros left a great legacy of fun, excitement, memories, and more. This game has spawned numerous sequels, spinoffs, sports games and more. Mario has not only spawned in video games, but also toys, comic books, color books, and more. In the late 80's Mario had a cartoon called "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.", in which Mario was played by the late Captain Lou Albano, and Luigi being played by Danny Wells. The cartoon also had a Friday cartoon with "The Legend of Zelda". The game series, also spawned a live-action movie in 1992, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario and Luigi, while Koopa was played by the late Dennis Hopper. Dennis Hopper stated that King Koopa was the worst character he has played, and to tell the truth, I agree. The movie was a complete disaster.
Rantings. My main ranting for years, ever since I was 3 years old, were the Hammer Bros. From the pit of my stomach I just could NOT stand them. They really pissed me off.
Good Aspects. This game has very high replay value, it is very fun to play alone or with a friend or family member. You can download this game for 500 Wii Points on the Wii Shop Channel.
Overall. This game has left a river of good memories, good times, and excitement. But now, some gamers don't care about great games like these anymore, because all they do is spend 18 hours a day playing Call of Duty on the XBOX or PS3, and worst of all, play Runescape, League of Legends, or WoW 18 hours a day on the PC. This game gets a 10 out of 10
