Mega Man 4 happens to be one of the best in the series which features new robot masters, new allies, a new antagonist, and new features that wowed many fans of the Mega Man series. Mega Man 4 despite receiving positive reviews from both fans and critics, it is widely regarded today to represent a downward shift from the quality of the first three games in the series. The game also features returning characters from the third game as well such as Protoman, Dr. Light, Roll, and Rush.
Plot. A year after Dr. Wily's third defeat and possible "death", Dr. Light receives a letter from a mysterious Russian scientist named Dr. Cossack claiming that he is the world's greatest robot engineer. Dr. Cossack states that he has sent eight robot masters and is plotting for world domination as a test for Dr. Light to see who is the better inventor. Dr. Light once again sends his best creation, Mega Man, to stop them all and put an end to Cossack's reign of terror.
Also as usual after defeating bosses, Mega Man absorbs their abilities and can be useful against other bosses who are weak against any of them. Like the Master Weapons, the three Rush modes and the two adaptors are each limited to an amount of weapon power that drains when in use. Also, a new character named Eddie, randomly appears giving Mega Man random items (such as healing items and ammunition) at designated areas in some of the stages.
Controls. For the Wii, the controls are simple as you move with the directional buttons. To jump press the 1 button and for shooting press the 2 button. To charge up a shot you have to hold down the 2 button. First shot is a bit weaker, but the second one is much stronger, and useful against some bosses. To slide you have to hold down the down button and press the 2 button.
Design. Keiji Inafune in the beginning had problems with Mega Man 4. He designed Dr. Cossack as much younger, and planned to name him Dr. Vice instead. He had plans to make him American, but then was changed to Russian. Also Cossack's daughter, Kalinka was created because there were so many male characters already, and secondly she wasn't intended for players to compare her to Mega Man's sister, Roll. The stages are so well detailed and designed, especially the intro as well. Inafune knew what he was doing, and he is a total genius.
Music and Sound. The music in Mega Man 4 is totally kick ass and epic. The theme songs in the stages of Dive Man and Skull Man rank as the best Mega Man songs in the entire franchise.
Rantings. The Dust Man stage happens to be one of the stages that I truly abhor mainly because of the enemies appearing from holes popping up, and making you fall when you attempt to jump over them. Also, those ladybug like copters were also a real pain in the ass. Also, if you don't mind spoilers, I did not like the ending that much because it barely had a climactic moment.
Good Aspects. Mega Man 4 is a great game, and a lot of things are very memorable such as the theme of the final boss in this game. Mega Man 4 has some of the best music in the franchise, and it's also very catchy, kick ass, and above all epic. Mega Man 4 has high replay value, and you can purchase this game for 500 Wii Points on the Nintendo Wii. Have fun with Mega Man 4 gamers and gamerettes!
Overall. My final score for this game is an 8 out of 10.
