Battlefield: Bad Company is one of the most successful FPS games of all time next to Halo, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor and so on. This is one of many anticipated games that most FPS aficionados enjoy playing both online and in campaign. Most Battlefield fans are looking forward to the third game being released on October 25 this year, so I decided to review and get y'all hyped up even more for the upcoming game. I'm sure most of you gamers and gamerettes have played Battlefield 3 Beta, and I'm sure you CAN'T wait!
Plot. Sometime in the near future, there is a war between the United States of America and the Russian Federation. Preston Marlowe joins a new squad called "Bad Company" and then embarks on a mission to seize Russian artillery and use it against them. As they continue fighting, they stumble upon a Legionnaire encampment; a team of mercenaries whose leader is called "The Legionnaire", a ruthless commander. But suddenly during a mission, the U.S. Army catches them and forces them to surrender and going AWOL. Now the team must capture the eccentric dictator of Serdaristan and find a way out on their own after the U.S. Army has deserted them.
The environment is almost entirely destructible, but bullets don't go through walls most of the time. The ammunition system uses a bullet calculator, shown on the HUD, and players can endlessly repair vehicles with power tools unless they are completely destroyed. Airstrikes and Mortar Strikes can also be utilized.
Concept. The purpose of the game is to guide Preston and his squadron throughout several missions fighting the Russians, and after going AWOL, they must find a way to clear their names and catch an eccentric dictator while fighting off a mercenary team led by The Legionnaire.
Design. The game has 3D graphics and CGI sequences during scenarios. Also, when regrouping with your squad there is a conversation with the team's commander, Mike-One Juliet, who briefs the team on what they have to do next. Also, the environmental areas such as mountains, villages, and more were very well designed by the developers. Great job EA!
Multiplayer. Players who want to take a break from campaign can duke it out with friends and other people online. The game's multiplayer systems supports up to 24 players, and it's setup is Attackers vs. Defenders scenario. Players can earn different types of awards depending on actions taken, and also obtain five different classes such as: Assault, Demolition, Recon, Specialist, and Support.
Memories. One of my friends from college recently before the Battlefield 3 Beta release suggested that I played the game. And it's a good thing I listened to him because this game is really good, and has a kick ass story to remember. For some reason this battle between Russia and the USA is like something out of Red Dawn and other action movies that include a war between both superpowers. Also, one time on my Facebook I asked who was gonna win this year; either MW3 or Battlefield 3. Two of my friends said MW3 though one said that B3 has a chance, and my best friend from high school who works in EA, she supported Battlefield 3. I didn't knew she played I thought.
Rantings. Now for one thing that bothers me is that the team has to regroup for another briefing at times. It was necessary, but annoying. Also, what I do not like in some missions is that the enemy constantly uses tanks to track you down and it was bothersome. Airstrikes took longer than expected at times, and because of tanks, I had to constantly heal.
Good Aspects. This game has many great qualities and has high replay value. I really enjoyed this game more than COD thanks to a friend of mine. To him, COD and Halo are just outdated, but well, to each his own. I really liked the storyline as well, and it was very well scripted. Reminded me of a combination of movies like Jarhead and Black Hawk Down.
Legacy. Battlefield: Bad Company was successful upon it's release. Critics gave positive reviews and most fans were eager with more multiplayer action despite the campaign being so tough at times. Battlefield had a World War II spinoff known as Battlefield 1942, 1943, and even a futuristic setting known as Battlefield 2142. The sequel to Bad Company was released on March 2010, and met with more positive reviews from fans and critics. Battlefield was such a classic with it's spinoffs and sequels.
Overall. Battlefield happens to be a great FPS game, but after COD was losing some of it's respect after Black Ops, it won't be long before Battlefield takes the throne with Battlefield 3. This game gets an 8 out of 10.
