Plot. It is a day of joy in the Mushroom Kingdom, the Mario Bros and friends are celebrating the birthday of Princess Peach. But suddenly a giant cake appears and Bowser Jr pops out from the top, and his Koopalings kidnap the Princess taking her to Bowser's airship and to the castle where he awaits the two brave plumbers. However, they also have to rescue Toads as well, and also get new power-ups such as the traditional Fire Flower and Mushroom, also they will have new power-ups such as the Ice Flower, Propeller Suit and the Penguin Suit.
Controls. Players can either choose to play with the nunchuck, or if they like they can play old school style with the Wii remote sideways. Shaking the controller causes Mario or any other character to lift heavy objects such as barrels, ice cubes, etc.
Concept. This game follows the traditional concept of the old Mario games such as heading through stages such as roaming on the surface, underground, underwater and also defeating old enemies at Fortresses and their respective castles. Courses are accessed via a map screen, and enemies are often roaming it. If the player bumps into one while traveling the map, it will initiate a mini-boss fight where players can earn extra Super Mushrooms. There are also Toad Houses where players can earn additional 1-ups and items that can be equipped on the map screen. At some points, a Toad will appear trapped in one of the previously completed levels, and the player can choose to rescue him from a block and carry him safely to the end of the stage to earn bonuses. There are three Star Coins hidden in each course which can be spent on hint movies that show certain secrets, such as the location of a secret goal or how to gain infinite 1-ups. Collecting all the Star Coins within a world unlocks one course from the secret World 9 that can only be played after the main game has been completed.
Memories. Playing this game brought back so many memories such as the theme songs and also the gameplay style of using your Wii Remote sideways, which is a lot more comfortable to play with of course. That kind of excitement that us old school gamers have felt need to come back in many other games that we played as children during the 80's and 90's.
Development. New Super Mario Bros Wii, was announced on E3 Entertainment Expo 2009. The game was created in response to Shigeru Miyamoto's desire to create the Mario series's single player gameplay for multiple players, as he was unable to bring these ideas to fruition in the previous installments.
Secrets. If players got all of the Star Coins in every world, they can have access to World 9, only after the game has been completed.
Overall. New Super Mario Bros Wii is a great game, although not as great as the DS version but I love the game so much still. So for my review this game gets a 9/10
