Endless Duel is a video game that is based on the anime Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and it is the first game to be based on that anime. This game can be played for two, and you get to play as your favorite heroes and villains of the anime. However, the game is very hard when playing it on Story Mode in the Hardest difficulty setting. Now, this is my first foreign game review, since I wanted to make something more than just games that came to the USA, I decided to try something new, like foreign games in which you will see this month.
I write this review, not only because I love the game, but also because I am a huge fan of the Gundam anime franchise, and Gundam Wing was the first Gundam series that I saw, before seeing other Gundam animes like: Mobile Suit Gundam, G-Gundam, Gundam 00, and more.
Plot. With high expectations, citizens of Earth leave their home planet to start a new life in space colonies. However, the United Earth Sphere Alliance, gains military power to invade one colony after another, in the name of justice and peace. The year is After Colony 195, the time of Operation Meteor, where rebel factions of certain colonies decide to counterattack the aggression of the Alliance by sending five pilots to Earth on five colossal assault robotic vehicles, known as Gundams. Now, Heero Yuy and others fight for against the tyrannical OZ organization to free the colonies and Earth from the grip of the Alliance as well.
Wing 01 and Zero have two kinds of special attacks. The first one is where they use their rifle blasters, and the second one is where they turn into a ship, and it can be maneuverable as it passes by back in forth three times, which is extremely cool. Mercurius can perform it's special by activating it's force field, for only a limited time, where it cannot be harmed.
Concept. Gundam Wing is a fighting game, where in single player mode players can fight against a series of Gundams, Mobile Suits and also the final and most powerful Gundam, Epyon. The game can also be played for two, but it's complicated when playing it on an emulator. Unless you have a 360 controller to connect it to your computer.
Design. The game has 2D graphics, and the Gundams have a very complex design, which took a lot of work for the developers and it was very well made. Also, the intro pays tribute to the "Just Communication" anime intro, which features the Tallgeese Mobile Suit against the Wing 01. After every battle, characters taunt their opponents after defeating them.
History. Endless Duel is based on the Gundam Wing anime series. The Gundam series begain in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, and for years, the series had spawned toys, manga, video games, and more. In the United States, the Gundam series was more successful than Transformers, and the anime took the country by storm. The fact is that before Transformers and Voltron existed, Gundam was already there.
Rantings. What bothers me of this game is that it should have been more than just a fighting game, because it mainly lacked a story. Also, the Mobile Suit I hated to fight was Mercurius, piloted by Lucrezia Noin. Mercurius would sometimes test my skills and patience, because it was fast, nifty, and much of a cheater with it's force field special.
Good Aspects. The game has many good qualities and moderate replay value. I happen to be big fan of the Gundam series due to it's dark and complex storyline. The cool thing also is activating a cheat to play as Epyon, is by highlighting Wing Zero and pressing L four times, R four times, then L R four times. The music theme "Rhythm Emotion" was very well synthesized, and it is a great theme of the series.
Overall. Though unreleased in the USA it can be downloaded as a rom to play on your SNES emulator. This game gets a 6 out of 10
