Plot. In the city of Angel Grove, an intergalactic witch named Rita Repulsa has been released from her prison after ten thousand years. Zordon recruits five young teenagers to become a superhuman fighting force, known as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In time of great need, they summon colossal assault vehicles, known as Zords. Rita begins her rampage, and the rangers prepare to stop her.
Gameplay. Players can choose to play as five rangers: Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini and Kimberly. At first you start playing as the rangers unmorphed, but when you finish the first half of the stage, then you know what happens: IT'S MORPHIN' TIME!. You get to see the rangers morphing. When your power bar is full, you can unleash the true power of the rangers and eliminate every putty patrol that gets in your way. Also, you can fight the last two bosses on the Megazord. After beating the game, you obtain secret passwords in which you can battle your friends, or against the computer.
Music. The music of the game is similar to that of the TV show, but it's not so catchy in some ways. Everytime you encounter a boss, the famous theme show plays.
History. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was premiered as a TV Show in 1993. It is an adaptation of Japan's most popular Super Sentai series, which started in 1975, inspired by the anime "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" (Battle of the Planets or G-Force in USA). The Power Rangers were so popular in the 90's that it spawned toys, video games, comic books, color books, and even two live action movies that were panned by the critics. The legacy of the Power Rangers is legendary, and after three seasons of MMPR, new shows such as: Zeo, Turbo, in Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and many others emerged. In 2009, ABC was pulling the plug on the show after Power Rangers RPM. But Saban, has bought the show back, and it is premiering a new one called "Power Rangers: Samurai" in March 2011, on Nickelodeon. The Power still lives on.
Rantings. What I don't like about this game, is that the rangers use the same daggers when fighting against Putty Patrols. Also, what got me pissed off is that the lazy developers did not add Tommy. I believe that most people that played this game where disappointed that Tommy was not there, since he was very popular at that time. Also, why did they excluded fights against Goldar and Rita. I think if would have been a lot better if Tommy was included and also a boss fight with Goldar and Rita as well. Why does Zack look like a monkey? I think in the SNES they exceeded themselves a bit with the African-American stereotype.
Good Aspect. The design and special effects are really good. Except that I do not like Kimberly's final attack, which looked kind of lame. The megazord formation seems to be the same as when Voltron is formed. In my opinion, Voltron is SO MUCH better than the Power Rangers. Voltron could tear those Megazords to the ground.
Overall. Though this game is good, is still not a very good one. This game gets a 5 out of 10.
