Plot. One night a long time ago in Gotham, there lived a very wealthy family, The Cobblepots. The parents were horrified by their child's disfigured appearance and horrible behavior, and decided to throw him at Gotham River. 33 years later, Oswald Cobblepot became known as "The Penguin". Crime once again is at large at Gotham City, and the one who can stop them all, is none other than the Dark Knight himself, Batman. However, there is a new player in town who causes chaos. She used to be a shy secretary of Max Shreck, a powerful businessman, when she was nearly killed by her boss, she was revived by a horde of cats, and became Catwoman. Batman must now stop his two new enemies, and bring peace to Gotham.
Concept. Players play in seven stages, in which most of them can be very tough if not careful. They fight against seven bosses, in which Catwoman and Penguin are included. After beating the stage, you get to see some of the scenes that were in the movie, which is really good. Well done, Konami.
Music. The music of the game was very similar to that of Danny Elfman's composing, which I was happy to listen to.
Design. The graphics are 16-bit, and the game has some 2.5 dimensional aspects in some of the stages, but in some parts it's 2D. The sprite rendering of all the characters is amazing. The fighting is very similar to that of Final Fight, which was originally developed and released by Capcom.
Rantings. Now the guys I hate the most in this game are the Bazooka clowns, Sword Clowns, Knife Clowns, and the clowns that throw bombs at you, ever since I was a little kid, I truly despised them, and made me throw a tantrum. The bosses are really tough, and the boss fight I hated the most was the one with Catwoman. Catwoman was very unpredictable with her speed, and her hits packed a punch, especially her whip and claw attacks. The Penguin is a very hard fight, because he flies on his umbrella.
Good Aspects. The game is very unique, and I had a lot of fun. Also, my favorite stage was the one where you drove the Batmobile, which was almost like a race. When I was a kid, me and one of my sisters, who grew up playing games as well, was playing this all the time with me. I remember, when her high school friend lend this game to her, and we both played for hours, and it was non-stop fun. Though the game is difficult, it still has it's replay value.
Overall. Batman Returns is a very good game, and fun to play. Fans of the movie will enjoy this game. I give this game a 9 out of 10
